Private Duty Nursing

Living with complex health conditions is a challenge. Managing medical devices, treatments and medications while trying to accomplish the tasks of daily living may be more than individuals or families can do on their own. That’s why Tennessee Quality Care offers private duty nursing services to patients throughout West and Middle Tennessee.

Our highly skilled nurses or nursing assistants can provide care in the patient’s home for those who require more specialized and continuous services than is available through traditional home health visits. Nursing care and support services can be arranged for a few hours a day or around-the-clock. Private duty nursing clients may also be eligible for focused therapy or other services from our home health teams or hospice providers.

Q: What is private duty nursing?

Private duty nursing services enable individuals with complex medical needs to receive extended, one-on-one health care while living at home. A nurse or certified nursing assistants provides holistic care to help individuals maintain the highest quality of life possible. At Tennessee Quality Care, we serve patients ranging from infants to great-grandparents. To ensure we deliver the optimum level of care, our clinical staff works closely with clients’ primary care physicians, medical teams and family members. Our goal is to support and empower patients and their caregivers so they can successfully manage their multifaceted health challenges.

Q: Who is eligible for private duty nursing?

Private duty nursing is available for patients of all ages who require continuous skilled nursing care that can be safely provided in their residence. For information about eligibility and insurance coverage, call 1-866-846-8081.

Q: Who pays for private duty nursing?

Private duty nursing is not covered by Medicare, but can be covered by the following:

• Veterans Health Administration (VA)
• TennCare
• Long-Term Care Insurance
• Commercial Insurance
• Workers Comp
• Private Pay

Q: What services are available through private duty nursing?

On the day a referral is received, our representative will contact the patient and/or caregiver to discuss services needed and scheduling for care.

Nurses (LPNs or RNs) can provide a wide range of nursing care that includes, but is not limited to:

• Trach care
• Ventilator management
• Oxygen management
• Enteral nutrition including g-tube and NG tubes
• IV therapy
• Medication administration and management
• Urinary catheter care
• Ostomy care

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) can provide supportive care that includes, but is not limited to:

• Bathing, grooming and dressing assistance
• Fall prevention and assistance with mobility, transfers, repositioning and use of assistive devices
• Incontinence care
• Monitoring for changes in skin condition
• Medication reminders
• Maintaining safe and healthful environment
• Supportive care to enhance patient independence
• Light meal preparation, housekeeping and laundry services
• Respite care and caregiver support
