Volunteers play a valuable role in improving the quality of life for those in hospice care. Our volunteers are deeply compassionate individuals who contribute their time and energy to assist patients, families and the hospice medical team.
Here’s a brief look at some of the ways you can pitch in as a member of our team of amazing volunteers.
Helping patients. This can include visiting, reading and taking walks, as well as helping with pet care, household chores and meal preparation.
Supporting family members. This can include providing respite care to allow caregivers to exercise, go shopping or do errands. Volunteers may also help with light housekeeping, transportation and childcare.
Providing office assistance. This can include filing, copying, assembling medical charts, answering phones and other duties.
Contributing special skills. This can include sewing, quilting and letter writing. Certified professionals can also offer services like hair styling, pet therapy or therapeutic message.
If you’ve never worked with the dying before, don’t let that stop you from considering this opportunity. Our volunteer coordinator can help you decide how you’d like to contribute, and we’ll provide a comprehensive orientation and training program to ensure you know exactly what’s expected from you.
